JOB TITLE:
TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR
DEPARTMENT: PRODUCTION
STATUS: FULL-TIME
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: OPERATIONS MANAGER
- Create a positive and mentoring environment for Beneficiaries (ARC rehabilitation program participants) through collaboration and partnership with program staff.
- Supervise and manage a team of Drivers including hiring, training, and scheduling.
- Plan and optimize delivery routes to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods.
- Manage The Salvation Army fleet of vehicles, including maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Ensure compliance of safety regulations and TSA policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- High School Graduate or equivalent (Required)
- Current valid driver’s license: able to pass MVR report (Required)
- Must pass TSA driver and safety training series.
- Must pass background check, which will include Criminal History and Sex Offender Registry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, train, and motivate others.
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with fellow employees, beneficiaries, and donors.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
- General understanding of Safety Rules for Dock and Transportation.
- Minimum of five years light industrial, transportation, or operations experience.
- Minimum two years of verifiable supervisory experience.
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, clothing carts, merchandise carts, rolling clothing racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks and miscellaneous carts.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to operate forklift and complete regular certification requirements.
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.
- Must be able to occasionally work outdoors and walk on potentially uneven surfaces.
- Logistics Management – Strong understanding of transportation logistics including route planning, fleet management, and analyzing transportation data.
- Customer Service – Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with customers professionally.
- Teamwork – Ability to work effectively as part of a team, especially when coordinating with retail, WTU and Donor.
- Leadership – Ability to manage a team of drivers, transportation staff and Beneficiaries effectively.
- Time Management – Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks and ensure timely deliveries.
Job Duties
- Monitor the performance of drivers and transportation operation to identify areas for improvement.
- Manage transportation costs and identify opportunities to reduce expenses while maintaining service levels.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to transportation activities, including driver logs, vehicle inspection and delivery records.
- Coordinate with other departments such as retail, WTU and program to ensure smooth operation.
- Resolve any transportation-related issues or delays that may arise during delivery or pick-up process.
- Partner with HR in hiring driver positions and completion of training requirements.
- Prepare weekly work schedule in accordance with budgeted hours and ensure payroll reports are completed on time.
- Oversee training and supervision of Drivers/Material Handlers and beneficiaries assigned to the transportation department. Responsible for training and supervision of beneficiaries who are assigned as truck helpers.
- Plan and optimize route schedules based on delivery and driver schedules for efficiency.
- Maintain all DOT and driver files to align with state and federal law.
- Ensure each truck, tractor and trailer meets TSA operational and safety standards.
- Supervise the donation operations to include donation attendant training, CCC locations, donation bin placement, and donor relations. Ensures a quality donation experience for donors.
- View Smart Drive reports each morning, giving proper coaching/disciplinary action as necessary.
- Plan and conduct weekly Transportation Team meetings per ARC Policies.
- Review and approve all direct report timecards; ensure compliance with Wage and Hours requirements.
- Ensure loading and unloading equipment is safe and operable to include carts, dollies, load binders, flat carts, etc.
- Assures safety measures established and maintained by ARC policy and government regulations.
- Plays a critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.
- Assumes responsibility of day-to-day Operations in the absence of the Operations Manager.
