Schedule: Full‑time or part‑time, based on project and VA requirements

Rate: $26.00 – $32.00 per hour (dependent on experience, qualifications, and VA approval)

Position Overview

Kaleidoscope Supply Services supports the staffing of this position on behalf of a client company. If selected, you will be employed directly by the client—not Kaleidoscope, the VA, or the federal government.

This position supports transportation services provided under a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) contract. Drivers play an important role in ensuring veterans, authorized visitors, and personnel receive safe, reliable, and professional transportation services.

About the Role

In this position, you will safely transport veterans, authorized visitors, and personnel between designated facilities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service. Drivers serve as an important part of the VA experience by providing reliable, courteous, and dependable transportation support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport passengers along designated routes according to established schedules.
  • Conduct required pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections to ensure safe operating conditions, including inspection of brakes, lights, tires, and fluid levels.
  • Assist passengers during boarding and de‑boarding, including individuals with disabilities or mobility limitations.
  • Operate wheelchair lifts, securement systems, and other accessibility equipment as needed.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and compliant vehicle conditions in accordance with Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). VA standards.
  • Accurately record hours, mileage, passenger counts, inspections, and maintenance concerns.
  • Adapt to changing weather, traffic, and construction conditions while maintaining communication with dispatch and program supervisors.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to veterans, visitors, and staff.
  • Refuel vehicles and maintain required fuel, inspection, and operational logs.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, maintenance concerns, or safety incidents to management.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Valid California CDL Class B with Passenger (P) Endorsement required.
  • Air Brake endorsement preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of professional passenger transportation, shuttle, transit, bus, paratransit, or similar commercial driving experience.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations, suspensions, or reckless driving convictions.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong communication skills, professionalism, customer service orientation, and commitment to safety.
Contract Details
  • This position supports a federal nonpersonal services contract with the VA.
  • The anticipated contract term includes one base year with up to two optional renewal years, subject to funding, performance, and government needs.
  • As part of the federal approval process, the VA may review resumes and may request interviews.
  • Final placement and start date are contingent upon VA approval.
  • While Kaleidoscope Supply Services manages the staffing process, the employer of record will be the client company supporting the VA contract.
Compensation
  • Hourly pay: you are paid only for hours worked.
  • No paid holidays (holiday pay is not reimbursed by the government for this role).
  • Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, endorsements, and client approval requirements.
  • This position is classified as a W-2 employee position.
  • Overtime must be approved in advance by the client and contract management.
