The job of Elementary School Teacher was established for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues;

and responding to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

• Administers and develops subject‑specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and to create individual learning plans.
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicating expectations, achievements, and strategies for improvement.
• Assess student progress toward learning targets, objectives, expectations, and goals, and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Demonstrate and differentiate methods required for classroom and subject‑specific assignments to address individual student needs.
• Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program that addresses the needs of individual students.
• Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
• Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in various educational environments (classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) to maintain safety and a positive environment.
• Participate in meetings and professional development activities to gather information needed to improve student achievement.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth through reading, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
• Prepare written materials (grades, lesson plans, correspondence with parents and students, exams and quizzes, attendance logs, anecdotal records, etc.) to document progress and meet requirements.
• Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child or substance abuse, harassment, zero‑tolerance offenses) to maintain student safety and comply with state law and board policies.
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, students, and central office staff to resolve issues and provide information.
• Support other classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.
• Perform other responsibilities assigned by administration.

Requires prolonged standing or movement around the classroom, occasional stooping, bending, and reaching; sometimes noisy and crowded environments.

Education – training: B.S. in a job‑related area;
Mississippi “A” certification or higher with endorsement in the teaching area; knowledge of teaching methods; fair and consistent application of procedures.
