Industrial Engineer – Ocean Systems Programs
As an Industrial Engineer (IE) you will focus on designing, improving, and optimizing systems and processes within the Ocean Systems programs to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality while reducing costs. This involves creating new systems, improving existing ones, or implementing new technologies. IEs work with complex systems involving people, machines, information, and materials. IEs analyze processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
The role requires statistical analyses, operations research, human factors, logistics, and frequent coordination with Planning & Production Control, Manufacturing Engineers, and Operations Leads.
- Create detailed flowcharts or diagrams to visualize the current product flow through multiple stages of production and analyze the flow to identify bottlenecks, delays, and inefficiencies that may hinder production.
- Develop strategies to refine processes and improve the workflow, ensuring that materials and products move smoothly from one stage to the next.
- Conduct time and motion studies to identify inefficiencies in production processes.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce cycle times by using Lean Manufacturing principles (such as yamazumi charts) and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Analyze production capacity and develop strategies to improve resource allocation, including both personnel and equipment to ensure that manufacturing capabilities align with customer demand.
- Design and improve workstations to improve ergonomics and efficiency.
- Work with the site quality team to develop and implement quality control measures into standard work.
- Use MES software (Solumina) to implement, track, monitor, and control manufacturing processes, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop manufacturing work instructions in an MES system to clearly define the manufacturing processes for fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment.
- Identify and execute on continuous improvement projects.
- Identify and reduce risks in the production processes.
- Oversee and optimize the production process—from raw materials to finished products—to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Operations Leads, and Inventory Control.
- A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering and 2–4 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Industrial and Systems Engineering and less than 2 years of experience.
- Must be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in assembly manufacturing environments.
- 2+ years of factory flow and process modeling and simulations experience.
- 2+ years of experience leading continuous improvement and value stream mapping events.
- Strong analytic skills and a high degree of proficiency in data mining.
- Exceptional proficiency with Excel, manual data analysis, and other data mining tools (Python, R, SQL).
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance, or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with CAD software and manufacturing simulation tools.
- Certification in Greenbelt Training.
- Process Improvement – Lean Concepts, Engineering Economic Analysis, Process Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Methods, Six Sigma, and Waste Reduction.
- Operations improvement – Ergonomic and Human Factors, Operations Plans, Capital planning.
- Integrated Systems – Value Stream Analysis, Production Systems Design, Manufacturing Process Design, Systems Thinking, Supply Chain Design and Optimization.
- Experience with manufacturing, assembly, integration & test processes, procedure development & implementation.
- Costpoint ERP, Solumina MES, Windchill PLM.
- Background in AS 9100 Standard.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency in Power BI.
