Description
The Maritime System Division of Leidos is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for our Long Beach, MS office to work with our engineering and production teams as we develop and produce cutting-edge solutions to address existing and emerging missions of national importance for a broad range of customers across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, other governmental agencies, and commercial clients.
Responsibilities- Support and/or lead the design, development, installation, and maintenance of a variety of sub-surface, surface, and land based electro-mechanical systems.
- Create and modify detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings using the Solid Works software suite.
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams and take design input from multiple engineering disciplines with responsibility for timely completion of tasks of significant impact to operational results or project deliverables.
- Perform tasks to completion independently, be able to suggest solutions to technical problems, and serve on a design review team.
- Prepare and/or review proposed engineering change documents, test plans, and test reports.
- Work with production staff to ensure products are manufactured as designed and in a timely manner.
- Participate in product verification testing designed to ensure requirements are being met.
- Present mechanical designs and justify engineering decisions during engineering reviews both internally within the company and externally with customers and stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an ABET-accredited engineering degree program; 4 - 8 years prior relevant experience or master’s degree with 2 – 6 years of prior experience.
- Prior experience or knowledge with unmanned maritime vehicles and associated sensors, underwater cables/connectors, launch and recovery subsystems, acoustic sensors, and/or EMI mitigations.
- Requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency with the Solid Works software suite.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be self-motivated with the desire to learn and perform diverse work.
- Must work well with others and be able to communicate and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Average physical mobility to move around an office and lab environment.
- Hands-on experience working on electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Prior experience with HVAC systems design and thermal management.
- Prior experience with designing systems to operate long-term in high-corrosive environments.
- Certified Solid Works Professional (CSWP) or higher.
- Experience with finite element analysis for structural, vibration, and thermal simulations.
- Experience working in an ISO manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in PTC Windchill PLM.
