The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is currently seeking a Full time Technician B position for an applicant interested in pursuing postbaccalaureate studies in neuroscience, medicine, or similar fields. Primary interest of the laboratory is to understand the mechanistic underpinnings of autophagy and adult-onset neurodegenerative disease by using mouse genetics, cell biology and biochemistry. Scientific activities include processing histological samples, support scientists in maintaining mouse colony, PCR genotyping, biochemical analyses of tissue homogenates with a special focus on isolating and characterizing autophagosomes.
Day-to-day activities involve organization of supplies, antibody and plasmid libraries and maintenance of lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance of detailed lab notebook
- Organization of supplies, maintenance of service contracts, equipment, antibody and plasmid libraries
- Mouse colony organization
- immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence of mouse tissue
- Autophagosome isolation
- Tissue fractionation
- Support scientists in lab on projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Lab experience
• Communicate effectively in both written and oral settings
• Able to work in a team setting
• Previous experience with mice
• Proficiency with confocal imaging and tissue handling.
• Able to maintain an excellently curated lab notebook, as well as demonstrate other organizational skills
• Proficiency with Matlab, R, or Python
• Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
