The Longmeadow Department of Public Works is seeking applicants for Part Time/Seasonal positions of Recycling Attendant. Works under the supervision of the Heavy Equipment Operator/Recycling Attendant.
Position is responsible for carrying out the daily tasks associated with resident use of the Recycling Center. The position involves monitoring incoming materials to the Center, ensuring residents have current permits to use the Center and that fees for certain items have been paid in advance. Helps direct residents to proper areas for disposal of materials and helps coordinate traffic flow particularly during busy periods.
Successful candidate must have:
- Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Knowledge of recycling practices and procedures, Massachusetts Waste Ban Ordinances and DEP and EPA regulations pertaining to items collected.
- Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively orally. Ability to maintain good public relations and effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, and the general public and to respond courteously and professionally. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team, perform the physical requirements of the position, in all weather conditions, and ability to operate related equipment.
Ability to detect and report equipment malfunctions and safety problems. - Strong communication skills, problem-solving skills and customer service skills. Safe and effective operation of tools and equipment.
High School diploma or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
