Job Description

Reports to:

Director of Pupil Services and Building Principal.

Job Goal:
To help reduce or eliminate speech and language disabilities that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Serves as a resource to school staff in developing a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Provides a therapeutic program to address speech and language needs of eligible students.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disabled children.
  • Interprets assessments of speech, voice, and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to identify speech and language disabled children at regular intervals and specified levels.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff to implement therapy suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  • Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Provides in‑service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff on topics concerning speech improvement.
  • Keeps thorough ongoing records for individual students receiving therapy or other school provided speech and language services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Physical Demands

Light lifting up to 20 pounds; frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 10 pounds. Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, reaching, handling, finger, talking, hearing, vision, color vision, and field of vision within specified time frequencies.

Work Environment

School setting. Noise level moderate. No significant environmental factors.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year in accordance with Longmeadow Educators Association (Unit

E) and Longmeadow School Committee Agreement.

$35 to $44 Per Hour

Job Requirements
  • Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Communication required. One year of successful performance in the communication area preferred. Acceptable alternatives may be considered by the School Committee or designee.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
