NOTE:
This is a one-year position for School Year requiring double certification:
Special Education – Moderate Needs and Mathematics. Reports to the Director of Pupil Services and Building Principal.
JOB MISSION: To lead, encourage, and assist students to develop their individual potential for intellectual and emotional growth, resulting in learning and achievement of high standards of knowledge and skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Professional Knowledge
- Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities, share information and knowledge with other teachers, and apply the best research in the design and development of school curriculum.
- Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.
- Planning for Instruction
- Set short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning.
- Develop and maintain lesson plans based on these goals and share when appropriate.
- Use of Materials and Equipment
- Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning.
- Effectiveness of Instruction
- Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals, modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards.
- Maintain systems of assessment and measurements reflecting progress in achieving instructional objectives.
- Learning Environment
- Establish an atmosphere encouraging sensitivity and respect among students and with teachers, and practices and routines that create an appropriate learning environment.
- Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
- Coordinate services to students as prescribed in Individual Educational Plans.
- Effective Organizational Relationships
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
- Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings.
- Contributions to Students beyond the Classroom
- Be available for student and/or parent conferences.
- Contributions to the School and/or Teaching Profession
- Work collaboratively to identify areas for school improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.
- Enforcement and Compliance with School Regulations
- Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the school system.
- Evaluation – Consistent with current Agreement Between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.
- Certification – Massachusetts double certification in Special Education – Moderate Needs and Mathematics.
- Meet Massachusetts state certification requirements.
- Knowledgeable of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in Mathematics.
- Educational preparation relevant to area of instruction.
- Prior relevant successful experience preferred.
- Master’s degree in Mathematics or MAT in Mathematics preferred.
- Ability to teach various High School Mathematics classes.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
