REPORTS TO:

Director of Special Education

JOB GOAL:
To organize, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate special education staff, programs and services at the school level and assist in the continuous improvement of district services.

• Chairs initial and reevaluation I.E.P. meetings in assigned buildings.
• Chairs I.E.P. review meetings when requested.
• Facilitates and supports the writing of initial and reevaluation Individual Educational Plans.
• Communicates effectively with parents, staff and administration.
• Assists with the development of special service schedules within assigned buildings.
• Coordinates the home/hospital referrals within assigned buildings.

• Facilitates the effective use of special education staff and collaborates on the special education staff schedules in the assigned buildings.
• Provides guidance and support to regular and special education staff regarding the implementation of special education requirements.
• Participates in the supervision and evaluation of all paraprofessionals in assigned buildings.

• Coordinates the Special Education staff in-service training along with the Director of Special Education for assigned buildings in conjunction with regular education activities.
• Meets regularly with the Director of Special Education to review program implementation and coordination, service delivery, and student and staff concerns.
• Coordinates special education services within assigned buildings.
• Coordinates and facilitates assigned building Child Study Team meetings and after-school special education collaboration/department meetings.
• Assists in the monitoring of out-of-district students in collaboration with the Director of Special Education.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Position Type: Full-time
Salary: $55,374 to $104,806 Per Year

• Qualifications
• At least five years of successful special education teaching experience at one or more levels.
• Special education teacher certification required.
• Thorough working knowledge of the special education regulations.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• Any alternative to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable to the Director of Special Education.

• Work Environment

  No environmental conditions should affect the performance of this job. Noise level is moderate (Level
  3).

• Terms of Employment:
  Salary and work year in accordance with the Longmeadow School Committee/Longmeadow Education Association-Unit A Agreement. Stipend, plus 10 extra days per diem.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Master degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

• Submit a complete School Spring application with three letters of recommendation that are current, less than one year old.
• Provide a detailed list of teaching experiences, including Town & State, Subject & Grade, Dates (from-to), years taught, type of experience (student teaching, regular contract, or substitute), and reason for leaving.
• Include in the resume any extra‑curricular activities participated in and any hobbies or special interests.
• At interview, submit original paperwork:
  Massachusetts State Certification, official college transcripts, and signed original letters of reference.
• During the interview process, complete a writing sample as requested.
