Job DescriptionQUALIFICATIONS:
REPORTS TO:
Principal, through the Director of Athletics
To lead, encourage, and assist students to develop their individual potential for intellectual and emotional growth, resulting in their learning and achievement of high standards of knowledge and skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities; share information and knowledge with other coaches; apply the best research in the design and development of their sport.
- Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.
- Set short-term and season-long goals for their sport based on sound principles and practices of learning.
- Develop and maintain practice schedules based on short-term and season-long goals and share when appropriate.
- Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase player skills.
- Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all players achieve those standards.
- Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.
- Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among players and coach, and practices and routines which create an appropriate learning environment.
- Design instructional experiences in which players achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
- Maintain open and effective communication with players, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
- Participate actively in team/staff meetings.
- Be available for player and/or parent conferences.
- Work collaboratively to identify areas for athletic improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.
- Observe and implement the rules and regulations established for the athletic program.

Consistent with current Agreement Between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.
