The Middle School Math Guide guides adolescents in developing strong mathematical understanding, critical thinking skills, and confidence as independent learners. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of adolescent development, strong experience with or interest in Montessori philosophy and practices, and a working knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards for Mathematics, with the ability to thoughtfully align standards within a Montessori learning framework.
As a Middle School Guide, you will facilitate a prepared learning environment that supports each student’s intellectual, emotional, and social development, fosters interdisciplinary connections, and balances Montessori principles with state requirements in a developmentally appropriate way.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and guide a dynamic group of middle school students in a Montessori classroom setting, providing group instruction and individualized student support in alignment with the Montessori philosophy.
- Create and implement engaging, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate lesson plans that cater to the diverse learning needs and interests of students.
- Maintain expertise in relevant subject area, including Montessori methods for teaching the subject area.
- Foster a supportive and nurturing environment that encourages independence, self-discipline, and critical thinking.
- Cultivate positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues, encouraging open communication and collaboration.
- Guide students in their personal growth and development, focusing on building self-confidence, responsibility, and empathy.
- Maintain classroom organization, ensuring that the classroom is well-prepared with Montessori materials, and encourage student participation in maintaining their learning environment.
- Implement student assessments, track progress, and provide constructive feedback.
- Serve as a role model for students, promoting respect, integrity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Expertise in the subject area that you are hired to teach, including demonstrated knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards.
- Interest in and willingness to learn about the Montessori philosophy and
- Understanding of adolescent development and education, with an understanding of the emotional, social, and intellectual needs of middle school-aged children.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to engage with students, parents, and colleagues in a collaborative and professional manner.
- Passion for working in a Montessori environment and dedication to the educational success of students.
- Experience in developing and leading interdisciplinary projects and curriculum.
- At least five years of teaching experience.
- Strong ability to build positive, respectful relationships with children and adults.
- Skilled in using positive discipline strategies and maintaining effective classroom management.
- An open mind and commitment to the Montessori approach to education.
- Sound judgment regarding safety and security.
- Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic school environment.
- Punctual and reliable in maintaining school hours.
- Commitment to creating a supportive, respectful, and collaborative teaching team.
- Instructional Leadership:
Lead engaging lessons, create and update syllabi, and source or create materials to support student learning. - Environment Preparation:
Ensure the classroom is well-prepared with appropriate materials for the subject area. - Professional Development:
Continuously engage in professional development and research to deepen expertise and stay current in subject matter. - Curriculum Implementation:
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Montessori principles, ensuring they meet curriculum requirements and student needs. - Student-Centered Learning:
