Maximize plant production and optimization of KPI's, while guaranteeing all product is manufactured within environmental and quality specifications. The job entails following up, implementing, and improving standards while promoting a safe and engaging workplace. Process Engineer in the plant will be responsible for the Process Engineering side of the business/operations, that includes analysis, study, process troubleshooting and process optimization.
Job Responsibilities- Work following the Mission, Vision and Values of CEMEX, lead by example.
- Initiate, develop and implement plant improvement projects, which include:
- Eliminate equipment restrictions
- Implement projects/upgrades to improve KPI performance
- Commission equipment
- Provide expertise and technical knowledge to plant personnel, which includes:
- Identify training requirements and execute training programs to reach standard level.
- Identify gaps on performance versus standards on equipment and personnel, creating actions.
- Creates instructions, procedures, and standards, and assure compliance of both.
- Root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
- Ensure performance and efficiency of equipment at or above rated operational capacities, minimize operational cost, which includes:
- Perform mass and heat balances.
- Perform hydraulic calculations in industrial fans/ductwork and gas handling.
- Perform equipment diagnostics.
- Validate plant instrumentation by a routine testing program.
- PID optimization.
- Specific heat consumption & specific power consumption optimization.
- Alternative fuel & fuel performance up to strategy, which includes:
- Follow up and improve performance of grinding media and refractory performance.
- Environmental reagent optimization while always complying with environmental limits.
- Take decisions and accountability to reach objectives, which includes:
- Daily performance follow-up.
- Data log, which includes:
- Previous conclusions.
- Action follow-up.
- Process flow charts & equipment information upkeep.
- PI/Seeq champions / power users.
- Action follow-up of all previously described activities.
- Adhere and ensure all CEMEX, MSHA, OSHA, and other safety rules and regulations at all times. Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds (including but not limited to clothing, hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, etc.).
- Assure all plant personnel (direct and indirect report) work in a safe environment, guarantee all required tools are available to perform a safe task and ensure risk assessments are conducted and follow up on safety hazard identifications and procedures.
- Ensure people have skills and training needed to perform in a safe and productive manner, be able to train personnel to assure compliance.
- Assure area assigned is up to safety standards, all deviations are identified and corrected.
- Participate on safety committees, risk assessment, training, standard work, assist in developing safety programs, monitor plant operations to assist in ensuring safe job performance.
- Participate in near miss and accident investigations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related major.
- 5 years progressive experience within the heavy industrial manufacturing industry.
- Previous cement process experience is a plus.
- Previous continuous process, bulk‑material handling operation experience may also be considered beneficial.
- Must possess at least a basic understanding of raw geological materials (i.e., limestone, clay, sand, iron ore, etc.), their chemical composition, and familiarity with crushing, grinding, blending, kiln processing, cooling, and conveyance (i.e., belts, stackers, pneumatics) of those materials.
