Summary
The Director, Product Engineering leads the team responsible for maintaining, improving, and supporting released products throughout their lifecycle. This role ensures product reliability, quality, performance, and customer satisfaction by addressing defects, managing enhancements, and supporting escalations while minimizing disruption to new product development. The director balances operational responsiveness with technical rigor, working closely with the New Product Engineering, Customer Support, Manufacturing/Operations, and Quality teams.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the Product Engineering team responsible for released products.
- Own post‑launch engineering activities (hardware and software), including defect resolution, root‑cause analysis, manufacturing improvements, usability improvements, cost improvements, and incremental continuous improvements.
- Investigate, respond, and drive resolution of customer complaints or field failures escalated by the Customer Service team.
- Work with sales and application engineering to answer questions on existing products in existing applications.
- Assist production teams with technical issues (Tier 2 Production Support).
- Analyze failure data (field, production, incoming material defects) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify and approve alternative materials or suppliers.
- Improve and support vendor and production test fixtures (repair, expand coverage, improve cycle‑time, verify updates).
- Create customer documentation packages, updated bill of materials, and settings profiles for released products.
- Set and track KPIs and team goals related to time to resolve customer issues, quality and reliability improvements, product cost reductions, and resolution of material supply issues.
- Conduct performance reviews and appraisals to evaluate team members’ performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field.
- 7+ years of engineering experience.
- 2+ years in a technical management role with direct reports.
- Experience leading sustaining or product improvement teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong focus on product quality and processes.
- Excellent problem‑solving, time management, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and systems‑level thinking skills.
- Familiarity with change management, defect tracking, and issue triage processes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.
- Customer and reliability focused mindset.
- Strong prioritization and decision‑making skills.
Longmont, CO, US (on‑site location). Relocation assistance is available for this position.
BenefitsBase compensation: $175,000 - $195,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience. Total compensation includes paid time off, holidays, and comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, short‑term disability, life insurance, and a 401k matching program with instant vesting.
