Role Summary
The Global Customer Training Instructor delivers world‑class technical training to controls‑upgrade customers by customizing training material, simulation software, workshops, and labs to meet customer objectives and target audiences. The instructor interacts with customers, training coordinators, project managers, engineers and other functions, reporting directly to the global customer training leader. Responsibilities include material updates, equipment health checks, software licensing, shipping equipment, coordinating with customers, closing out projects for final revenue recognition, and providing technical advising for field services, mobilization of first‑of‑a‑kind Controls installations, new Controls NPI, and critical Customer Issue Resolution (CIR).
Responsibilities- Prepare for customer training classes (mainly in North America).
- Attend all customer pre‑training meetings and agree on technical scope and training objectives.
- Obtain customer technical data to build training material, customize simulation software and workshops/labs.
- Ensure adequate training equipment, manuals and tools are available for each class.
- Assist regional training coordinators with shipping paperwork and timely delivery to customer sites.
- Own training equipment condition – calibration, integrity, software licenses and accessories.
- Plan and book travel itineraries, hotels and rental cars using the GE corporate card in compliance with policies.
- Assist with printing manuals, working with suppliers and resolving payment issues.
- Coordinate customer students and giveaways.
- Assist Regional Training Managers with facility coordination and ensure training rooms are presentable.
- Deliver customer training classes in compliance with GE HSE policy – LOTO, tripping hazards, electrical safety, etc.
- Report risks related to incomplete software, delayed shipments, site hazards or student behavior.
- Deliver training class according to contract scope and report discrepancies.
- Submit SAP time drop, expenses and training completion documents in a timely manner.
- Work with RTM to improve training quality through investment in new equipment.
- Identify potential risks or hazards and initiate stop work when necessary.
- Conduct periodic health checks of equipment, software licenses, labeling and scheduling.
- Own training material updates, branding and inclusion of new workshops.
- Lead innovation of new training delivery techniques (cloud‑based VMs, e‑learning modules, AI applications).
- Provide technical direction and guidance to field resources during power equipment outages.
- Serve as a best‑practice/quality resource and contribute to strategy and policy development.
- Mentor junior team members and resolve issues requiring technical knowledge and judgment.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships as the interface between customer and GE.
- BS degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited university.
- More than 7 years of experience in power‑plant controls engineering, field services and instruction.
- Strong communication skills with a passion for training.
- Proficiency with Cimplicity, Toolbox
ST and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). - Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle conflicts and pressure.
- Role involves approximately 50% travel to customer sites within North America (mainly the U.S.).
- Experience with cybersecurity systems for industrial applications (desired).
- Experience with SAP and Smartsheet (desired).
- Experience working for a large engineering firm (greater than 1,000 persons) (desired).
- Technical communication skills.
- Aware of HSE requirements within industrial environments (desired).
- Required to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export‑controlled information (if applicable).
- Experience with cybersecurity systems for industrial applications.
- Experience with SAP and Smartsheet.
- Experience working for a large engineering firm (>1,000 employees).
- Technical communication skills.
- Awareness of HSE requirements within industrial environments.
