Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a Lead Photonics (Opto-Electronics) Engineer to provide technical leadership for the development of advanced photonic detection systems and optical instrumentation. This individual will help define technical strategy, guide research initiatives, and lead the design of innovative, high-performance solutions. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving capabilities.

This is a senior-level engineering role focused on ultra-low-light detection, optical imaging, and advanced photonic instrumentation. The successful candidate will lead the development of high-sensitivity detection systems, with particular emphasis on maximizing signal-to-noise performance through detector selection, analog front-end design, low-noise electronics, and precision PCB architecture.

The role serves as a key technical authority in photonic detectors, optical sensing technologies, and associated electronic systems used in scientific and industrial instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop ultra-low-noise analog front-end electronics for optical detection systems.
  • Define performance requirements and specifications for photonic detectors, including photodiodes, APDs, SPADs, SiPMs, and detector arrays.
  • Lead the development and evaluation of optical imaging and light-collection systems for low-signal applications.
  • Analyze detector physics, noise mechanisms, and system-level performance limitations.
  • Research and assess emerging photonic and sensing technologies to inform future product development.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering and research teams.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support advanced instrumentation development programs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, product performance, and development efficiency.
  • Contribute to technology roadmap planning and long-term innovation initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Approximately 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Low-noise amplifier design and analog circuit architecture
  • Precision PCB design for sensitive analog applications
  • Optical detection and imaging systems
  • Deep understanding of photonic detector technologies and supporting electronics.
  • Strong analytical, experimental, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to independently evaluate emerging technologies and guide technical direction.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Experience with photon-counting systems and time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC).
  • Broad knowledge of modern photonics, optical sensing, and imaging technologies.
  • Proven success transitioning advanced technologies from research into commercial products.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D environments.
  • Strong record of innovation through patents, publications, or significant technical contributions.
  • Demonstrated leadership of complex engineering programs and product development efforts.
  • Hybrid work arrangement with a strong on-site presence required.
  • Primarily office and laboratory-based environment.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment and materials up to 20 pounds.
  • Exposure to laboratory environments and specialized equipment may be required, with all work conducted in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Base salary range: $150,000 - $175,000
, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Retirement savings plan with employer contribution
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Tuition assistance and professional development support
  • Employee wellness and assistance programs

This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly experienced opto-electronics engineer to influence cutting-edge technology development and help shape the future of advanced sensing and photonic instrumentation.
