Job Title

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

As a member of the Blue Origin family of companies, Honeybee Robotics has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years. Our Colorado location specializes in creating advanced motion control solutions for NASA, defense, and commercial programs. Our work has played a critical role in thousands of projects, spanning from conceptual design studies to flight missions, including NASA's Artemis I Mission and the Roman Space Telescope.

We are seeking technically brilliant individuals who are passionate about their work, thrive in collaborative environments, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.

This role is part of the Motion Control Business Unit, Honeybee Robotics which designs, manufactures, and tests high-performance, reliable motion control components and integrated solutions that power the most demanding aerospace and space exploration missions. From actuators and gearboxes to motors and precision motion control systems, our products operate in the harshest environments, enabling critical missions from Earth to deep space.

Our Test Department plays a critical role in ensuring every component and system meets the rigorous standards required for mission success.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers in our Test Department, you will apply standard engineering knowledge and methods to design, plan, model, execute, and interpret tests for aerospace systems and components. With a focus on space mechanisms in support of the Lunar programs, you will develop test strategies for mechanisms and implement comprehensive test campaigns, along with the associated Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and test software needed to electrically stimulate, power, command, and measure these mechanisms.

Special Mentions

  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time
  • Interviews will include a technical assessment (programming/automation focus)

Responsibilities

  • Develop test strategies and plan, develop, and execute comprehensive test programs for space mechanisms in support of the Lunar MK-2 programs, including actuators, gearboxes, deployment mechanisms, motors, and precision motion control assemblies
  • Author, review, and maintain test plans, test procedures, and test reports in compliance with applicable standards and program requirements
  • Design, develop, and validate Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) to electrically interface with, power, command, stimulate, and measure mechanisms under test
  • Develop test software and automated test sequences (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) to command EGSE, orchestrate test execution, and collect, analyze, and report measurement data with real-time monitoring
  • Design, set up, and operate test fixtures, ground support equipment (GSE), and data acquisition systems to support electromechanical system testing
  • Conduct functional, performance, life, and environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock, EMI/EMC) on flight and qualification hardware
  • Read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents (ICDs) to support EGSE stand-up and troubleshooting of articles under test
  • Collect, reduce, and analyze test data; identify anomalies, root causes, and corrective actions; and communicate findings clearly to engineering and project teams
  • Collaborate closely with design, systems, and quality engineers to ensure test requirements are properly derived, allocated, and verified
  • Support test readiness reviews (TRRs), test anomaly investigations, and failure review boards (FRBs)
  • Maintain accurate test logs, configuration records, and traceability documentation in accordance with quality management system requirements
  • Operate and maintain test laboratory equipment, including motor controllers, torque sensors, encoders, load cells, and multi-channel data acquisition systems
  • Implement version control (Git) and software development best practices for test software supporting development and production test
  • Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency, repeatability, and automation; contribute to continuous improvement of test infrastructure and processes
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and external test facilities as required to support program milestones
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including tasks or projects outside the primary scope of this role as needed to support evolving program, test, and business priorities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), automated…
