Mechanical Technician

Job Description

The Mechanical Technician will assemble, solder, and test mechanical components and fixtures for advanced high-energy laser weapon systems in a regulated manufacturing environment. This role involves hands-on work with hand and power tools, following detailed prints, schematics, and bills of materials to build rugged and compact systems designed for challenging operational conditions.

Responsibilities

+ Operate hand and power tools to assemble mechanical components and subassemblies according to engineering prints, schematics, and bills of materials.

+ Perform mechanical assembly work with a high level of precision and attention to detail in a regulated manufacturing environment.

+ Carry out soldering tasks as required to complete assemblies and ensure reliable electrical and mechanical connections.

+ Assist in assembly and testing activities to verify that components and systems meet performance and quality requirements.

+ Support fixture design by assembling and helping to refine test fixtures used to validate system functionality.

+ Troubleshoot mechanical issues during assembly and test, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

+ Follow established procedures, work instructions, and quality standards to ensure consistent and compliant builds.

+ Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to resolve build issues and continuously improve assembly processes.

+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, properly handling tools, equipment, and materials.

Essential Skills

+ Proven ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively in a mechanical assembly environment.

+ Hands-on mechanical assembly experience, including working from prints, schematics, and bills of materials.

+ Soldering skills suitable for production or prototype assembly work.

+ Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues during assembly and testing.

+ Experience working in a regulated environment, following documented procedures and quality standards.

+ Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics accurately.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

+ Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing setting.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+

Experience with assembly and test of complex electro-mechanical systems.

+ Exposure to fixture design, including assembling and refining test fixtures.

+ Familiarity with high-reliability or defense-related hardware environments.

+ Comfort working with evolving processes and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing environment focused on developing next-generation high-energy laser weapon systems designed to operate in demanding conditions. The work is hands-on and tool-intensive, involving regular use of hand and power tools, soldering equipment, and test fixtures at workbenches and assembly stations. The environment follows regulated procedures and quality standards, with an emphasis on safety, precision, and reliability.

Technicians typically work on-site in a collaborative setting alongside other technicians and engineers, contributing directly to the assembly and testing of rugged, compact systems intended for challenging operational environments. Appropriate industrial attire is expected to support safety and comfort in a shop-floor manufacturing setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Longmont, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
