Byers K9 Services is seeking dependable, professional, and motivated individuals for the position of K9 Security Patrol Handler
. This position combines traditional security responsibilities with the deployment, handling, care, and continued training of a company-owned working K9.
K9 Security Patrol Handlers are responsible for maintaining a visible security presence, conducting proactive patrols, identifying and reporting suspicious or unsafe activity, protecting client property, and properly deploying their assigned K9 when appropriate.
This is a working K9 position
, not simply a security position with a dog. Handlers are expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism, physical capability, situational awareness, report writing, K9 control, and accountability both on and off duty.
- Conduct routine and randomized foot patrols throughout assigned client properties.
- Maintain a highly visible security and K9 presence to deter theft, trespassing, vandalism, and other criminal activity.
- Inspect buildings, construction areas, gates, fencing, vehicles, equipment, and other designated areas.
- Identify suspicious persons, vehicles, activities, safety hazards, and security concerns.
- Professionally approach and address unauthorized individuals when appropriate.
- Enforce client site rules and established post orders.
- Contact law enforcement, fire, EMS, supervisors, or client representatives when circumstances require.
- Complete accurate and detailed daily activity reports, patrol documentation, incident reports, and other required records.
- Properly operate company-issued radios, body-worn cameras, mobile applications, and security equipment.
- Maintain situational awareness and immediately report unusual or significant activity.
- Remain awake, alert, attentive, and actively engaged for the entire assigned shift.
- Safely handle and maintain control of the assigned K9 at all times.
- Deploy the K9 during security patrols as authorized by company policy and client requirements.
- Conduct required maintenance training and participate in scheduled company K9 training.
- Maintain proficiency in obedience, control, environmental exposure, patrol techniques, and other assigned disciplines.
- Properly maintain K9 equipment including collars, leashes, harnesses, crates, training equipment, and related gear.
- Maintain the K9's approved feeding, watering, exercise, grooming, and care schedule.
- Monitor the K9 for injury, illness, behavioral changes, or other concerns and immediately report them.
- Transport the K9 safely using an approved vehicle and secured K9 crate or containment system.
- Maintain an appropriate home environment for the K9 when authorized for home housing.
- Follow all company requirements concerning veterinary care, nutrition, medications, training tools, and K9 management.
All K9s assigned through this program remain the sole property of Byers K9 Services. Assignment of a K9 does not constitute ownership or create any ownership interest in the animal.
Minimum Qualifications- Be at least 18 years of age
. - Possess a valid driver's license.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Successfully complete all required background screening.
- Meet any state or local licensing requirements applicable to the assignment.
- Have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Be capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Be physically capable of controlling a working German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, or similar working breed.
- Be comfortable working independently with limited direct supervision.
- Possess strong communication and observational skills.
- Be capable of writing clear and accurate reports.
- Have a working smartphone and the ability to use company-required applications.
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct.
- Successfully complete the BKS-approved K9 Handler Academy and/or evaluation process before independent deployment.
