Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Data Center Plant Operator II is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of critical infrastructure systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct routine inspections and log operational status of mechanical and electrical systems, including switch gear, generators, ATS, PDUs, UPS systems, battery strings, fire suppression systems, chillers, pumps, AHUs, CRAC units, VAVs, hot water systems, and cooling towers.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs such as repairs, adjustments, lubrication, etc.
- Operate the Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor conditions, respond to alarms, rotate equipment, override schedules, and adjust setpoints.
- Respond promptly to system alarms and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Provide technical insights and documentation related to maintenance and repair activities.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems; collaborate with team members to resolve operational and safety issues.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records.
- Coordinate facility‑related projects with internal teams and external vendors.
- Support senior technicians with small‑scale projects and initiatives.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of mechanical and electrical rooms.
- Develop a foundational understanding of building systems and their operations.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and respond to after‑hours emergencies and alerts to maintain facility uptime and safety.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related trade or facilities role.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Flexibility to cover additional shifts and participate in on‑call rotations.
- Ability to respond to urgent issues outside of standard working hours.
- Physical capability to climb ladders and access underfloor spaces.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Familiarity with standard tools, equipment, and maintenance materials.
- Basic proficiency with computers and digital systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, electrical one‑line diagrams, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering drawings, sequences of operations, and standard operating procedures (MOPs/EOPs).
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
- Effective team collaboration and communication skills.
- Certificate from an accredited HVAC or electrical technical program.
- Stationary engineer license or journeyman electrician certification.
- Prior experience working non‑standard shifts (nights/weekends).
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and grow within a data center environment.

CompensationThe base salary range for this position is $53,500.00 to $76,560.00; pay will be hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
