Definition:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, Coordinator, Swim Lesson Specialist, or Pool Manager, manage City of Longmont Aquatic facilities and lifeguards. Assist with facility staffing, maintenance, and general operation of the indoor and/or outdoor pools to ensure a safe, fun and secure environment.
Principal Duties:
• Overall responsible for all safety operations of facility and initiating change when
necessary to maintain a safe environment.
• Assist visitors or staff in non-emergency and emergency situations.
• Lead, manage and assist Lead Lifeguards, Lifeguards, and Front Desk staff.
• Ensures proper placement of self, Lifeguards and Lead Lifeguards during rotations, and ensures that staff are correctly scanning their zones and performing surveillance duties.
• Rotates between lifeguarding and working at the front desk during down times, when at Activity Pools. Rotates with the lifeguards when working at the Longmont Recreation Center.
• Foster the success of lifeguard staff through motivation, guidance, and education. Train lifeguards to be proactive in anticipating customer needs, problems and seeking positive solutions. Routinely perform activities with lifeguard staff to provide opportunities for practicing lifeguard and front desk skills.
• Ensure that employees report to work on time and are placed in their proper assignments, take an active role in finding coverage for vacant aquatic staff shifts, and complete Employe Counsel Forms as needed.
• Handles and/or reports any problems in staff relationships to the Aquatic Coordinator or supervisor.
• Oversee and take chemical readings and make accurate, safe and necessary adjustments. Keep chemical and filter room logs current and accurate and communicate to supervisors when appropriate.
• Routinely perform standardized pump room procedures, ability to perform minor trouble shooting to fix routine pump room problems, all up to training level.
• Enforce policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of staff and patrons using the pool and maintain proper records and reports for adherence to all applicable Health Codes
• Communicate appropriate information to peers and supervisors in a timely manner, follows established communication methods as directed by supervisory team.
• Resolve conflict situations with patrons on or about the swimming facility, referring patrons to supervisor as needed.
• Make and/or maintain cordial and professional public relations with patrons.
• Complete and submit a variety of forms and files including: incident, facility and
equipment maintenance or damage.
• Perform daily maintenance duties which could include: trash removal, snow removal,
weeding, cleaning hair baskets, pool areas, rest-rooms, locker rooms, and other patron and staff areas.
• Observe, follow, and enforce established policies and procedures regarding staff, and safety protocols in the daily conduct of the job.
• Attend and participate in staff trainings.
• Adhere to and perform open and closing procedures for City swimming pools.
• Assist in Administrative tasks including: time sheet accuracy and completeness,
distribution of schedules, and front desk coverage.
• Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City
Attributes.
Working Environment:
Working conditions are performed either indoors or outdoors, and involves exposure to hot and cold temperatures, high humidity, direct sun and/or moderate to loud background noise.
