Few roles at this level offer exposure across both public and private markets. This position covers private market funds, hedge funds, public equities, and co-investments, providing the Associate with exposure to a wide range of investment strategies, manager types, and asset classes. TCC operates with a lean, entrepreneurial team structure, giving the Associate real ownership and work directly alongside senior investment professionals in a collegial setting.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Hedge Funds & Alternative Investments, the Associate will contribute across TCC’s externally managed portfolios, supporting the team on private market funds, hedge fund strategies, public equity strategies, and selective co-investments. The role is generalist, combining rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis with active relationship management. The successful candidate will be expected to manage their workload with autonomy, exercise sound judgment, and bring the discipline and initiative to drive work forward.

The position is based in downtown Montreal, with an in-office presence of at least 4 days per week.
Responsibilities
Oversee and update portfolio monitoring reports and tools across externally managed public and private market fund exposures, analyzing performance, attribution, and risk, and delivering clear, actionable insights to the investment team.
Support the evaluation and prioritization of fund opportunities across private markets, hedge funds, and public equity, applying quantitative screening and qualitative judgment; maintain structured peer groups to support comparative analysis.
Conduct market research and monitor macroeconomic and sector developments to contribute thematic investment ideas across asset classes.
Support due diligence on external manager funds and co-investments, including analysis of investment processes, risk frameworks, track records, and terms.
Contribute in preparation of high-quality investment memos, research notes, and presentation materials to support portfolio decisions and External Management.
Investment Committee (EMIC) discussions
Participate in periodic EMIC meetings covering market developments, idea generation, and the review and approval of fund and co-investment opportunities.
Engage with external managers, consultants, and institutional peers to support relationship management and market intelligence.
Leverage AI-assisted tools to enhance due diligence data analysis, streamline workflows, and improve the synthesis of investment insights.
Support the integration of sustainable investing practices into manager due diligence and ongoing monitoring, contributing to TCC’s responsible investment initiatives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, commerce, economics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
1 to 3 years of experience in the financial industry, preferably in asset management, investment banking, sell side research, pension fund management, or investment consulting.
Progress toward a CFA or CAIA designation is expected; preference will be given to candidates who have completed at least one level.
Exposure to public equity and alternative investments, ideally within an institutional environment, is considered a strong asset.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong quantitative skills with the ability to work across large datasets in Excel and other analytical tools to produce clear, insight-driven portfolio reports.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI or equivalent visualization tools).
Familiarity with Bloomberg terminal is an asset.
Demonstrated experience applying generative AI tools (such as large language model assistants, AI-powered research platforms, or automated workflows) to enhance analytical productivity, synthesize complex information, and accelerate investment research and reporting.
