Accounts Examiner (Longview or Tyler) – (827034) Overview
Texas Workforce Commission connects people with careers across the state. This entry‑level account examiner reports to the Tax Department at either 1125 Judson Rd, Longview or 909 ESE Loop 323, Tyler.
Responsibilities- Examine and audit operating reports and financial accounting records for compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.
- Collect taxes, fees, or penalties and conduct skip‑tracing investigations.
- Review employer accounting records including payroll, general ledgers, profit and loss statements, and federal reports.
- Prepare audit reports, outline discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions.
- Establish employment tax liability, open and close employer tax accounts, and ensure compliance with TUCA.
- Collect delinquent reports and taxes, contact employers, and audit forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Prepare employer quarterly reports and assist in preparation of tax forms.
- Recommend collection action to the State Office when appropriate.
- Communicate with employers, legislators, and state or federal agencies regarding TUCA and other laws.
- Conduct frequent telephone contact to obtain information necessary to resolve account problems, answer questions, and provide quality customer service.
- Organize heavy workload to resolve concurrent assignments and meet deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One year of full‑time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications.
- Acceptance into a TWC Internship or TWC Apprenticeship satisfies the minimum qualifications.
- Experience or education in accounting or auditing.
- Experience in investigations.
- Experience in collections.
- Experience with payroll records.
- Experience with financial records and statements.
- Experience in providing information regarding the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act or other State and Federal laws and policies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Public speaking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
