A well established manufacturing firm is seeking a hands‑on Plant Controller to lead the accounting and financial activities of our manufacturing facility. This position will serve as a key financial partner to plant operations and corporate leadership, with responsibility for cost accounting, inventory, forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.

We are open to experienced Plant Controllers, Assistant Controllers, Cost Accounting Managers, and Senior Accountants who are ready to advance into a Plant Controller role.

Candidates do not need to be currently employed by a manufacturing company. However, they must have direct, hands‑on experience supporting manufacturing operations and performing cost-accounting responsibilities.

Hands‑on cost-accounting experience is required for consideration.
Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting and Manufacturing Analysis
  • Maintain and improve the plant’s standard-cost accounting system.
  • Oversee product costing, bills of material, labor routings, overhead rates, work centers, and standard-cost updates.
  • Analyze material usage, labor efficiency, yield, scrap, volume, mix, purchase-price, and overhead-absorption variances.
  • Investigate unfavorable variances and partner with operations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Monitor product costs, cost per unit, labor productivity, inventory accuracy, and manufacturing performance.
  • Support new-product costing, pricing analysis, make-versus-buy decisions, and continuous-improvement projects.
  • Validate cost savings and productivity improvements.
Financial Reporting and Planning
  • Lead or support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial schedules.
  • Produce plant financial statements, variance explanations, forecasts, and management reports.
  • Coordinate the annual budget, monthly forecasts, and long-range financial projections.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and communicate their expected impact.
  • Present plant performance results to operational and corporate leadership.
Inventory and Working Capital
  • Oversee accounting for raw materials, work in process, finished goods, spare parts, and obsolete inventory.
  • Reconcile physical inventory, production records, subledger activity, and general ledger balances.
  • Coordinate cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
  • Research inventory discrepancies and implement corrective controls.
  • Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory and maintain appropriate reserves.
  • Partner with purchasing, planning, production, and warehouse teams to improve inventory accuracy and working capital.
Plant and Operational Partnership
  • Serve as a financial partner to the Plant Manager and operations leadership team.
  • Translate manufacturing activity into clear financial insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Develop plant performance reporting for labor, materials, yield, scrap, downtime, overhead, and productivity.
  • Support operational decisions through scenario modeling and financial analysis.
  • Promote cost awareness and financial accountability throughout the facility.
Controls, Compliance, and Audit Support
  • Maintain internal controls over inventory, purchasing, payroll, capital expenditures, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Support internal audits, external audits, and SOX requirements, where applicable.
  • Protect company assets and identify opportunities to strengthen controls.
  • Maintain complete and accurate financial documentation.
Capital Expenditures and Fixed Assets
  • Prepare financial analysis for capital requests, including ROI, payback, NPV, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Track capital expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Oversee fixed-asset additions, transfers, disposals, depreciation, and physical verification.
  • Partner with operations and engineering to evaluate project results and expected savings.
Leadership and Development
  • Lead or develop toward leading the plant accounting function.
  • Work effectively with corporate accounting, operations, supply chain, engineering, and senior management.
