Job Description and Qualifications
J H Operating Company, LLC, an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management firm primarily supporting the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry, is seeking a Construction Manager for its office in Longview, TX.
The Construction Manager will provide strong leadership, ensure project success, and support the ongoing development of our field operations that include new capital industrial infrastructure projects such as multi-well production facilities, large central gathering stations, oil terminals, and saltwater disposals. This role is instrumental in overseeing these construction activities, coordinating with consultants, managing reporting, and fostering a culture of accountability and safety while ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The position will report to Shannon Little page, Director of Construction and Inspections.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Client and vendor engagement
- Ensuring that the client is treated with respect and professionalism at all times.
- Seeking to understand the needs of the client and deliver timely solutions.
- Understanding and managing your personal performance to promote JH teamwork and culture, while enhancing customer satisfaction.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all JH and customer information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee Construction Consultants to ensure smooth coordination, high-quality deliverables, and overall project success.
- Review and manage daily field reporting to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely communication.
- Lead, mentor, and develop field staff to support performance, growth, and long-term team capability.
- Manage bandwidth and resource allocation to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and progress efficiently.
- Evaluate resumes and support recruitment efforts to maintain a strong, capable field team.
- Prepare and submit current construction progress updates and forecast reports.
- Participate in all project-specific meetings, representing field operations and ensuring alignment across all stakeholders.
- Offer guidance and training to optimize schedules, designs, systems, procedures, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure alignment with project goals related to safety, scope, schedule, quality, and cost control through close coordination with Clients and Project Managers.
- Promote accountability and ethical behavior, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Leverage subject matter experts, asking critical questions and validating information to ensure informed decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements, verifying that construction aligns with approved specifications, drawings, and permits.
- Travel Required:
Approximately 12 trips per year. This position requires the CM to be present on site prior to PSSR in order to review the completed work and ensure it’s built to the client's specifications.
Qualifications:
Required:
- B.S. in Construction Management
- 10+ years of demonstrated experience in construction management, field supervision, or a similar role in energy or upstream oil and gas
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and effectively prioritize workload.
- Proficiency with construction documentation, reporting systems, and field-management tools.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project, with demonstrated ability to develop construction schedules, track progress, and prepare field and management reports.
