Understanding of Team:
It is expected that persons who do ministry as employed staff members of First United Methodist Church of Longview will do so with a Christ Centered understanding of being a team with laity and staff for the purpose of striving with God to build the kingdom of God. It is understood that these persons will give themselves to a high standard, which helps persons in the community and within the church to grow in their faith.
GeneralWork
The Organist is a part-time non-exempt position. The Organist provides organ and piano music for worship services, special services, including funerals and weddings. The organist coordinates with the Director of Music and Fine Arts on music selections.
Specific Work Responsibilities- Provides music at the regularly scheduled services on Sunday mornings.
- Provides music for special services throughout the year, including Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter sunrise service, and Christmas Eve.
- Provides music for funerals and weddings or when requested. If unavailable, the organist will work with the Director of Music and Fine Arts in securing a substitute organist.
- Rehearses weekly with the Chancel Choir and additional extra rehearsals for special events, soloists or other instrumentalists.
- Oversees the tuning and maintenance of the organ and reports maintenance needs to the Music and Fine Arts Director.
- Be available to work when needed or requested for church ministry events.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Music and Fine Arts Director or Senior Pastor, and other ministry as directed that is appropriate to the position.
Help provide for a welcoming reception of visitors and congregants.
SupervisionThis position reports directly to the Music and Fine Arts Director.
