Science Teacher / Coach

Spring Hill Independent School District, Spring Hill Junior High - Longview, Texas.

Teacher Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Plan and use instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect student learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model; support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Maintain reports, records, and required documents.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities; comply with regulations and policies.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Teacher Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training for certification waivers.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Physical Education teachers: current AED and CPR certificates.
  • Knowledge of core academic subject, curriculum, instruction, and student behavior management.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
Coach Responsibilities
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student athletes’ needs.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Plan instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate student athletes regularly.
  • Protect student athletes, equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Coordinate competitions and season activities with the athletic director.
  • Coordinate transportation for out-of-town events and maintain compliance with UIL rules.
  • Monitor student eligibility and enforce discipline during competitions and practices.
  • Advise students on NCAA regulations related to academic requirements and recruiting.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct.
  • Maintain records, reports, and documentation required for the athletics program.
  • Assist in selecting equipment and instructional materials.
  • Approve purchase orders and bids following district policies.
  • Oversee cleaning, repair, and storage of athletic equipment and maintain inventory.
Coach Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Current first aid, CPR, and AED certificates.
  • Valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Coaching or participant experience in the sport assigned.
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques, UIL rules, and student athlete supervision.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
