Job Overview
Transportation Engineer I or II – Longview Area Office (2601536). Position at the Texas Department of Transportation’s Tyler District, responsible for supporting all maintenance and construction operations for the Longview Area Office.
Location4549A West Loop 281, Longview, Texas 75604.
Salary Range- Transportation Engineer I (B24): $65,104 – $106,634 annually.
- Transportation Engineer II (B25): $69,572 – $114,099 annually.
Full‑time, Exempt, Yearly FLSA Status, Shift: Day, Onsite.
Responsibilities- Assist in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders, monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments, and tracking job progress on construction projects.
- Conduct pre‑construction meetings and public hearings.
- Drive/travel to project locations for on‑site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and provide technical support.
- Resolve differences between contractors and inspectors.
- Review shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
- For Transportation Engineer II, additionally assist area engineers with construction contract administration, perform complex engineering design work, develop and review engineering documents, create presentations and represent TxDOT.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science (or higher). Degree must be accepted by TX PELS. - Experience
:- Transportation Engineer I: 4 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience.
- Transportation Engineer II: 5 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience.
- Valid driver’s license (position requires driving a state vehicle).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). Professionals licensed in another U.S. state must meet Texas requirements, obtain a Texas license within six months of hire, and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.
- Standards and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures.
- Application of plans, specifications, estimates, design, drafting, and construction policies.
- Construction engineering policies, phasing, sequencing, and monitoring.
- Maintenance concepts, methods, and requirements.
- Basic design and drafting.
- Job identified as physically demanding; requires a pre‑employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test before employment (Safety Impact position subject to random drug testing).
