Police Officer – City of Gilmer, TX

The City of Gilmer is seeking a dedicated, community‑minded individual to join our Police Department. As a Gilmer Police Officer, you will engage in proactive patrols, criminal investigations, and community outreach to foster a safe environment for our residents and visitors.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Annual Salary: $52,000 – $60,320.
  • Retirement: TMRS retirement with a 2‑1 City Match (6% employee contribution).
  • Insurance:
    City‑paid Medical, Dental, and Life insurance.
  • Time Off: 15 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday, and paid vacation/sick time.
  • Perks:
    Longevity pay and certification pay.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive patrols to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety.
  • Respond to emergency calls, accidents, and incidents, providing first aid or CPR as needed.
  • Investigate crimes, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, and make arrests for misdemeanor and felony offenses.
  • Testify in civil and criminal court proceedings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Certification:
    Must hold a valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer license.
  • Citizenship:
    Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED.
  • Driver’s License:
    Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Background
  • No felony convictions or Class A misdemeanor convictions.
  • No Class B misdemeanor convictions within the last 10 years.
  • No dishonorable or bad conduct discharge from the military.
