Reviews new construction plans for compliance to Fire codes, and inspects and tests fire detection and suppression system installations for the Longview Fire Department. Enforces adopted fire codes and ordinances through review of plans and inspections. Works as a liaison between the Longview Fire Department and the City's Developmental Service Department pertaining to new and existing construction as it regards fire code compliance.
Reviews development plans and construction drawings to check for compliance with all fire and safety codes. Inspects fire detection and suppression systems for new construction and existing buildings; checks systems for code compliance and performs acceptance testing. Performs Certificate of Occupancy inspections within scope of authority and according to Development Services policies. Interprets and explains codes, regulations, permit and code enforcement rules, and related policies and procedures to developers, contractors, property owners and the general public.
Uses City Works for maintaining database of permits and inspections. Performs a variety of general administrative and support duties as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
High School diploma or GED equivalent; and two years experience in technical support functions, preferably in a government environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Permit review experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Certification for Fire Inspector from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) is required. Certification for Plans Examiner from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) is required.
Work is performed in a standard office environment and at building sites. Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 40 pounds.
