Position Summary
This position is a developmental leadership role designed to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities within Walmart US store operations. The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) will train and develop across areas such as merchandising, people leadership, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The developmental assignment is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months and may result in a Store Manager position within that timeframe.
Associates in this role are expected to maintain mobility within their assigned region for application and placement.
The ESM trains and develops within a store environment in retail operational acumen, people leadership, merchandising strategy, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in managing the store’s financial performance by authorizing and managing expenditures, monitoring sales and profit goals, and providing business reports and profit‑and‑loss statements.
- Supporting sales through effective merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, proper signing, and appropriate inventory levels.
- Modeling and enforcing customer service approaches, resolving complaints within company guidelines.
- Assisting with projected staffing plans, talent pipelines, and succession planning.
- Initiating and participating in community outreach programs, establishing relationships with key community members, and promoting company events and sustainability efforts.
- Upholding the Open Door Policy by meeting with associates, listening to concerns, and providing resolutions.
- Leading and directing the store’s management team to establish objectives, monitor performance, provide feedback, and identify training needs.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies, implementing asset protection and safety controls, and maintaining quality assurance standards.
- Developing and implementing action plans to correct deficiencies and supporting the execution of multiple business plans and projects.
- Facilitating strong partnerships with stakeholders across the organization and sustaining key organizational objectives.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, retail management, or financial management – option 1: plus 2 years’ experience in a management role within retail, operations, or distribution, with supervisory responsibilities; option 2: 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
- 2 years of general management experience with financial accountability.
- For firearms or ammunition facilities: successful completion of required background checks and certifications.
- Additional year of management experience with financial accountability in a retail or multi‑unit environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Leadership or similar.
- Walmart Assistant Manager, Coach, or Store Lead experience.
- Experience running a fresh, dry grocery, or general merchandise area and supervising 50+ associates.
- Willingness to relocate within assigned region.
The annual salary range is $85,000.00 – $. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and may include:
- Regional Pay Zone based on location.
- Complex Structure based on external factors.
