Key Job ResponsibilitiesThe Machinist will have a range of responsibilities essential to the manufacturing process, including but not limited to:
- Upholding and advocating for the highest safety standards to create a secure work environment for all team members.
- Efficiently producing parts that meet precise tolerance levels based on detailed blueprint specifications and manufacturing standards with minimal supervision.
- Interpreting blueprints and job orders to ascertain product requirements such as dimensions, tolerances, tooling instructions, fixture setups, feed rates, cutting speeds, and operational sequences.
- Setting up, calibrating, and operating CNC machines to manufacture close tolerance parts, including debugging CNC programs and troubleshooting manual machine operations.
- Performing own set-up and layout work with accuracy and attention to detail to ensure production quality and reduce scrap rates.
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, tooling processes, and safety compliance.
This role requires a proactive approach to machine operation, maintenance, and adherence to production schedules, ensuring that manufacturing output aligns with company goals and quality expectations.
Qualifications/RequirementsTo succeed as a Machinist in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A minimum of one year of hands-on experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment, demonstrating proficiency in machining operations.
- Ability to write and understand simple shop floor CNC programming with familiarity in debugging techniques.
- Willingness to work the 2nd shift consistently, with flexibility to work overtime and weekends as operational needs require.
- Strong foundational mechanical skills, including the ability to utilize and interpret precision measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
- Proficient in blueprint reading, interpreting manufacturing drawings, and applying these to machine setups and part verification.
- Effective communication abilities, including writing simple correspondence and accurately performing data entry and documentation tasks.
- Mathematical competency to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals across various units of measure.
- Comprehensive understanding of tooling terminology and nomenclature, alongside the functions of horizontal and vertical mills and/or lathes.
The candidate should be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and committed to maintaining high-quality workmanship while adhering to safety protocols. A continuous learning mindset and adaptability to evolving processes will be highly regarded.
