Two years of ED experience; current role must be in ED, free-standing ER, ER code, ER urgent care, etc.
Description:
The competent nurse in the same or similar clinical setting practices independently. Demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides both routine and complex care. Possesses the ability to contribute to long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage clinical nursing contingencies. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation.
Meets expectations of applicable competencies:
Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families. Utilizes appropriate protocols to administer medications and treatments. Monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care given. Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers. Identifies issues and resources.
