Starting pay per hour: $20.50 – $22.50. Full pay range: $20.50 – $34.85.

Pay may vary based on labor markets, education, work experience and certifications.

All About Assets Protection

AP teams keep guests, staff and the brand secure, manage crisis events, mitigate shortage risks, prevent theft and fraud, and build relationships with store leaders, public safety officials and law enforcement.

Skills
  • Leading a security culture, crisis response, safety environment and crowd‑management planning.
  • Implementing daily and weekly workload priorities to support business goals.
  • Responding to theft incidents and preventing future theft.
  • Developing strategic resolutions for external theft and fraud.
  • Partnering with store leaders on operational shortage priorities.
  • Leading a team of hourly staff and applying talent‑management skills.
Responsibilities
  • Consistently deliver guest experience commitments and ensure team members understand and apply them.
  • Observe performance, provide feedback and hold team members accountable.
  • Review guest, financial and team outcome metrics, take action, and celebrate wins.
  • Support store sales by keeping products in stock and available.
  • Validate physical security and safety processes and participate in emergency responses.
  • Educate teams on emergency preparedness and physical‑security procedures.
  • Coach and lead team members to elevate their skills per direct‑leader direction.
  • Plan staffing and develop tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales.
  • Manage a schedule that aligns with security needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Own prevention, identification and resolution of external theft incidents.
  • Investigate internal incidents per AP‑leader direction.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandising‑protection best practices.
  • Order and manage merchandising‑protection devices and budgets.
  • Communicate AP priorities to team, peers and leaders.
  • Build trustful relationships with leaders and law enforcement.
  • Maintain target reputation through best practices.
  • Analyze industry trends and collaborate with retail partners to enhance security.
  • Recommend candidates and develop a guest‑centric team.
  • Support onboarding, learning, and skill‑gap closure.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and enforce compliance.
  • Maintain all required training and act as first responder for safety incidents.
  • Model physical‑security processes and support merchandising‑protection strategies.
  • Represent Target’s interests in legal proceedings when necessary.
  • Execute safety‑program management routines.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet applicable state or local licensing and legal requirements.
  • Previous retail or loss‑prevention experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Ability to use communication devices and handheld scanners.
  • Self‑motivated, works independently and in a team.
  • Strong prioritization skills.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude.
  • Effective communication skills.
Additional Candidate Expectations
  • Access all areas of store to respond to issues.
  • Interpret instructions and reports.
  • Climb ladders and move merchandise up to 40 lb.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Remain mobile throughout shift.
