Position: Field Service Technician 2 - Heavy Equipment

Holt CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy equipment in the United States, is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician for the Fort Worth / Bridgeport Texas Region. The Field Service Technician's primary role is to conduct exceptional field service repairs, including pumps, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical issues, on heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators.

Hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with required overtime. The candidate must have a valid driver license, CDL Class B, and a good driving record. Related construction equipment experience is required. Must be able to obtain a CDL Class

B.

Essential Functions
  • Work safely at all times and comply with all safety policies, company procedures, and standards.
  • Perform repairs and troubleshoot off‑site with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Remove, install, disassemble, and assemble parts and components.
  • Test, adjust, and verify proper operation of repairs.
  • Prepare and complete job‑related documents, write service reports, order parts, and maintain clear customer records; access required databases.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles with required licenses and certificates.
  • Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean, and working order.
  • Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed.
  • Complete assigned jobs and tasks to meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs.
  • Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Project professionalism with internal/external customers, including personal appearance; may act as a mentor to lower‑level technicians.
  • Maintain regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, engines, undercarriage, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of emission system repair, troubleshooting, and diagnosing.
  • Knowledge of A/C system repair and troubleshooting on heavy construction equipment.
  • Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and basic knowledge of machine electronic systems.
  • Exceptional customer‑service skills.
  • Advanced diagnostic and trouble‑shooting skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently and plan for additional resources.
  • Operation and control skills of equipment or systems.

  • Capability to operate a crane, forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses.

  • Manual dexterity and coordination for manipulating small objects.
Requirements
  • More than two years of heavy construction equipment experience required; three or more years preferred.
  • Diesel Technology schooling preferred.
  • MSHA certification preferred.
  • Air conditioning certification preferred.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  • Travel required with possibility of overnight stays.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must have a safe driving record.
  • Must pass a DOT physical and maintain a medical card.
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs.
Physical Requirements
  • Move objects and use abdominal and lower‑back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb.
  • Use limbs for constant movement; require good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend/descend ladders and equipment using both hands and feet.
  • Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment.
  • React visually, auditorily, and to other signals including alarms and instructions; visually inspect work.
Work Environment
  • Wear common protective or safety equipment.
  • Work outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise level may be loud.
  • Exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment.
  • Work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
