Responsibilities- Perform routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control, and helping the public during emergency situations.
- Assist in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; perform basic welding as needed; use/move equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.
- Assist with traffic control; place and gather cones, warning signs and barricades; flag traffic.
- Maintain highways and rights‑of‑way; perform roadway repairs; erect and repair guard rails, highway markers and signs; haul materials and equipment to job sites.
- Move/pick up litter and roadway debris.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; complete required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms and PMI.
- Sand or clean bridges and roads, post warning signs, help the public and perform other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
- Assist with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

- Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Commercial Class “A” Driver's License with an “N” Endorsement or obtain a CDL “A” License within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
Currently Military or Veterans: US Military CDL Equivalent. US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class “A” CDL within 120 days of employment.
Preferred QualificationsCommercial Driver’s License.
