Part-Time Stage And Event Technician

Lower Columbia College's Rose Center for the Arts is currently accepting applications for our open part-time Stage and Event Technician position. In this role you will be the technical force bringing our campus and community productions to life, directly supporting live events in the Wollenberg Auditorium and ensuring high-quality experiences across theater, music, and lecture programming. Technicians ensure every lighting cue, sound check, and stage build runs smoothly.

The Stage/Theater Technician performs a wide range of hands-on technical duties, including set-up, live operation, and strike for events hosted at the Rose Center for the Arts. A primary focus of this role is executing live production needs in the Wollenberg Auditorium—hanging and focusing lighting rigs, operating audio boards and microphones, setting up PA systems, managing live streams, and performing general equipment maintenance.

The hours will vary based on need and availability and will primarily be scheduled during evenings, weekends, and holidays, but not exceeding 19 hours/week or 75 hours/month. The typical hours of campus operations are between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. This position is classified as a non-permanent Stage Technician 1 under Washington State Classification Specifications. This position reports to the Technical Director.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install lighting, scenery, audio and video for theatre productions, concerts, lecture, and other events in the Rose Center's Wollenberg Auditorium.
  • Perform a variety of duties related to the general maintenance and repair of theatre facilities and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year experience in one or more of the following: lighting, audio/visual, deck crew.
  • Lighting experience to include: light board operations, patching, hanging, focusing, minor repairs, etc.
  • Audio/visual to include: sound board operations, patching, experience with wired and wireless mics, setting up small PA's, knowledge of projectors, computers (Mac/PC), and some video.
  • Positive attitude, ability to remain calm and respond confidently and promptly to stressful situations, ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment, capacity to solve problems with diplomacy and tact; ability in creative thinking about challenges, have sound judgment, in dealing with a variety of personality types and situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple, simultaneous tasks and finish projects on time.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of ETC Ion, Behringer Wing, Black Magic video switcher.
  • Carpentry experience: small and large power tools, following diagrams, plans, and schematics, rigging, etc.
  • Proficient knowledge of PC and Macintosh computers.
