PHYSICAL THERAPIST

1.0 FTE - beginning the 2026-27 school year

SUPERVISOR:
Executive Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate endorsed as a Physical Therapist

2. BS/MA degree from an American Physical Therapy Association approved program.

3. Possess a valid license as a physical therapist in Washington State.

4. Commitment to the District's vision, mission and goals.

5. Ability to work in a collaborative or team approach.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, collaboratively and positively with students, parents, and colleagues, orally and in writing.

7. Ability to work with students in multi-aged groups.

8. Ability to use varied assessments, including performance tasks, portfolios, and student self-assessment.

9. Attends ongoing professional development activities, such as college course work, professional associations, workshops, and in-service opportunities.

10. Exhibits a strong and positive attitude with the belief that each student can be taught and has the right and capacity to achieve personal academic excellence.

11. Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable board policies and district and legal requirements.

12. Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide physical therapy services for students with motor disabilities in special and regular education classrooms, from preschool through grade twelve.

2. Evaluate, select and schedule caseload in cooperation with the school team.

3. Adapt/modify equipment/materials for students with motor disabilities.

4. Work collaboratively and consult with classroom teachers, peers, other support staff, parents and the community.

5. Complete the special education compliance paperwork process as appropriate, including evaluation reports and Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

6. Adapt the professional role of the occupation/physical therapist to the public schools.

7. Direct the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.

8. Attend or participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional development.

9. Participate in site-based decision-making processes.

10. Reports directly to and is supervised by the Special Education Supervisor.

11. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS /

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. May be required to travel between buildings and occasionally attend workshops and conferences with the region or state.

2. Required to work flexible hours and schedule which may include some evenings. Expected to prepare classroom for the start of school and prepare workspace or room for summer cleaning after the last day of school.

3. Classroom/office environment which includes frequently walking, occasional lifting, and bending, stooping, kneeling and keyboarding.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Contract Term: 180 days; 3 professional development days; 19 mandatory hours; 6 extra days
