JOB GOAL:
The primary purpose of the position of Behavior Support Coach is to cultivate and promote a safe, learning-centered school environment by encouraging positive student behaviors, supporting classroom teachers in classroom behavior management, fostering a culture of high expectations for all students and building positive partnerships with families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current Washington State Teaching and/or School Counselor Certificate. Master's degree preferred.
2. Trained or experienced in working with students that exhibit behavioral challenges.
3. Trained in CPI.
4. Knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of best practices related to classroom management, student discipline, school wide positive behavior support systems, and providing professional development.
5. Knowledge and experience in supporting cultures represented by the school and community. Ability to work effectively and communicate with persons from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member and leader.
7. Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Support the implementation of social/emotional based programs and curriculum to promote students' access to the academic curriculum.
2. Assist in staff training and attainment of SEL standards to implement positive behavior intervention strategies and classroom management strategies.
3. Coach and support teachers in the classroom, modeling best practices in classroom management, preventative behavior intervention strategies, and de-escalation techniques.
4. Gather and analyze information to develop individualized behavior support plans and interventions with the school team. Monitor and adjust these plans as needed.
5. Assist Counselors with providing consultation to classroom teachers to meet the social/emotional/behavioral health needs of students.
6. Participate in the Student Support Team (SST) process and meetings.
7. Review, analyze and use behavior referral data reports on a regular basis.
8. Assist the Principal, Counselors, and Staff in the ongoing consistent implementation of school wide PBIS.
9. Collaborate with the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports TEAM (SST/Red Zone Team) to identify students in need of Tier 2 or Tier 3 behavioral intervention, assist in the planning of those interventions, and monitor implementation of interventions.
10. Foster relationships with student/home environment when developing programs/plans. Coordinate with parents as well as the team to provide community resources if needed for a student who exhibits challenging behavior. Partner with parents to develop the behavior plan.
11. In consultation with the school principal, serve as the "point of contact" in the interface between community mental and physical health partners, the school, and our students and their families
12. Participate in SST, wrap-around, and with IEP teams in development of student support planning for Tier II & III students.
13. Collect, maintain and prepare student behavior data for monitoring and Title I reporting.
14. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment. Develop working relationships with all stakeholders to provide a network of support.
15. Implement culturally competent practices and culturally responsive school-wide and classroom management strategies to provide equity and access for all students.
16. Support, supervise and evaluate para-educators in their roles promoting the school's SEL and behavior program in the classroom and playground settings.
17. Coordinate assessment as assigned.
18. Collaborate with Behavior Support Team personnel.
