Medical Assistant – Cardiac‑Vascular Diagnostic Lab

Peace Health is seeking a Medical Assistant for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day position. Salary range: $24.41–$32.87, dependent on education, training, work experience, and other factors. The position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and may have multiple openings.

Job Summary

Assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant, working in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Essential Functions
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview; records patient history and vital signs.
  • Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, sets up, and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures, and/or anesthesia interview.
  • Administers injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
  • May transport specimens, schedule patients for tests, and assist in scheduling appointments.
  • May maintain patient files, records, and other information, including entry of data into electronic medical record.
  • May provide phone screening of patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
  • Collaborates with various personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Accredited Program required:
    Medical Assistant.
  • Accredited Program required:
    Medical Office Assistant that allows caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam will be considered (e.g., associate degree in Allied Health).
  • Apprenticeship required:
    Medical Assistant.
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year preferred; experience in a medical office preferred.
Credentials
  • National Medical Assistant Certification required (acceptable certifications include AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, AMCA, AAH, NAHPUSA).
  • Basic Life Support upon hire required.
Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of age‑specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
  • Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in computer and office equipment; familiarity with desktop computing tools, multi‑line phone systems, and insurance billing preferred.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of asepsis principles where applicable.
Department / Location Specific Notes
  • For clinic locations where caregiver will perform both Medical Assistant and Diagnostic Technician functions, must meet qualifications and perform essential functions of Diagnostic Technician job profile in addition to those for the Medical Assistant.
Washington State Requirements
  • Medical Assistant – certified licensure required.
  • Medical Assistant – Interim Certified credential accepted; caregiver must obtain non‑Interim credential within 12 months.
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
Primary Care Medical Home (PHMG) Responsibilities
  • Use decision support functions of EHR in tandem with standing orders/protocols to manage patient populations.
  • Assist provider in documenting details of patient encounter, ordering tests and referrals.
V Trauma SW Responsibilities
  • Manages providers’ schedules for call shifts, clinic times and meetings.
  • Arranges cases and clinic appointments to ensure maximum effectiveness of surgeon and PA.
  • Schedules post‑op and follow‑ups for surgical and trauma patients.
  • Completes surgery scheduling process by coordinating patient, surgery department and provider coordination of care between specialties.
  • Bills for trauma and acute care surgery.
  • Assists in seamless care of patient from discharge through recovery.
LCR Sleep Responsibilities
  • DME facilitation – mask fitting, PAP pressure changes, troubleshooting, scheduling, etc.
Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs without assistive equipment (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills required.
  • Push/Pull up to 45 lbs force.
