Pay: $162,802 – $179,177

We are seeking a Director of Maintenance & Operations who will provide strategic leadership to the District’s long‑range planning, facilities, and operational systems.
The Director leads the District’s facilities, maintenance, safety and security, transportation, capital project management, and construction efforts to ensure safe, efficient, and well‑maintained learning environments. This role is primarily responsible for aligning facility needs, capital planning, and infrastructure investments with the District’s long‑term vision, enrollment trends, and financial capacity.
A central component of this role is building strong, collaborative relationships with school building and district leaders. The Director serves as a key operational partner, ensuring that facility and operational decisions are responsive to the day‑to‑day needs of schools and support student learning and district safety and security. As a member of the District’s leadership team, the Director collaborates across departments to ensure operational systems are sustainable, efficient, and aligned with district priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, facility management, education or other related field is required. A master’s degree and/or professional certification is preferred.
- Progressive experience in facilities, maintenance, or operations management, including supervisory responsibility preferred.
- Experience in a public sector or school district environment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with long‑range planning, capital projects, or facilities modernization preferred.
- Familiarity with transportation systems and operational oversight preferred.
- Experience with facility planning, space utilization, and asset management.
- Understanding of sustainability practices and energy management systems.
- Knowledge of school facility regulations, safety standards, and emergency preparedness protocols.
- Experience with best practices and regulatory compliance in all facets of school district safety, emergency preparedness and physical security.
- Currently trained in Washington HB 1214 Safety and Security staff training or ability to complete within 6 months.
- Experience with public funding processes, including levy and bond projects.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with school leadership, boards, and community stake.
- Experience with asset management systems and facilities software preferred.
- Establish department goals, priorities, performance standards, and key metrics to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Develop and execute detailed action plans aligned to strategic goals, including creating and maintaining a structured schedule of projects that defines scope, ownership, timelines, milestones, and review cadence, ensuring plans are actively managed through completion.
- Analyze data, trends, and facility condition information to inform planning, resource allocation, and recommendations to district leadership.
- Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to coordinate services, projects, and regulatory compliance.
- Plan and implement short, mid, and long‑term facility, grounds, and equipment preventative maintenance programs.
- Supervise and evaluate the Maintenance and Operations manager and the Transportation manager.
- Identify training needs and provide ongoing professional development to ensure staff skills align with evolving system, regulations and best practices.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement and high quality service.
- Support leadership development and capacity building within facilities and transportation teams.
