Overview

The Equipment Operator (Front End Loader) plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of heavy machinery to facilitate various construction and material handling tasks. This position is responsible for loading, unloading, and moving materials in a safe and effective manner, contributing to the overall productivity of the site. Operators will work closely with other team members to coordinate activities and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount, as the operator will be responsible for maintaining equipment and performing routine inspections. Ultimately, the Equipment Operator will help create a safe and efficient work environment that supports the company s operational goals. This position is a safety sensitive position and requires a clear mind and diligence. The employee has the responsibility for his/her own safety as well as the safety of others.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver s license and ability to obtain necessary certifications for operating heavy machinery.
  • Proven experience operating front end loaders or similar equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Operate Front End Loader in a safe and appropriate manner loading hoppers for processing equipment.
  • Operate loader controls to lower and tilt bucket and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; dump material safely and effectively into machine hoppers and load semi trailers.
  • Move finished goods by operating a front end loader 966 or similar equipment.
  • Check condition of equipment; perform operations and safety checks prior to using equipment; fuel vehicles/equipment; inspect and perform safety checks on vehicles/equipment; clean vehicles/equipment; report the need for repairs.
  • Document work performed and prepares records and reports.
  • May be required to train for fire response; may be required to respond to fires.
  • Incumbent may be trained to operate any of the following types of equipment: front-end loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, pickup trucks, skip loaders, water trucks and other light, medium and heavy duty motorized equipment associated with the operation of the Facility.
  • Provide daily work assignments to crew.
  • Assist with scheduling of crew members.
  • Monitor crew members for safety violations.
  • Responsible for keeping yard organized and safe, including placement of products within the yard.
  • Participate in employee coaching as needed.
  • Coordinate with other Yard Leads to ensure smooth shift transitions.
  • Responsible for training all new yard employees on safe work practices.
  • Report any concerns with production, employees, and/or equipment to Yard Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Make recommendations for improvements and equipment needs or repairs.
Knowledge
  • Practices, methods, techniques, tools and equipment common to the operation of a processing Facility, construction fields; operation, care and preventative techniques for Facility equipment and assigned power tools;
    Occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures related to the work; basic shop mathematics; basic business English; operation of motorized power equipment;
    Agency rules, procedures and practices governing the areas of responsibility.
Ability
  • Learn and perform entry-level tasks in the operation of light, medium and heavy duty motorized power equipment; follow oral and written instructions; write simple correspondence related to the work; establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work; use and exercise initiative in daily work activities; shop mathematics; read and interpret safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures, operational instructions and general correspondence related to the work being performed;

    handle stress in a professional manner.
