Description
Performs intermediate unskilled and semi-skilled work in installation, maintenance and repair of city streets, sidewalks, traffic control devices, rights‑of‑way, and stormwater facilities; occasionally operates non‑specialized equipment. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Essential Functions- Assist with installation, maintenance and repair projects; operate non‑specialized equipment.
- Cuts hedges and grass, trims and removes trees, weeds flower beds; applies pesticides; feeds plants; rakes; plants shrubs; picks up trash and litter; edges sidewalks.
- Perform custodial and housekeeping tasks.
- Paint buildings, structures and equipment; replace light bulbs.
- Lays pipe, builds or repairs sidewalks, repairs roofs, builds driveways.
- Perform minor carpentry work, builds partition walls.
- Cleans and builds catch basins; pours asphalt; patches potholes.
- Installs, maintains and repairs irrigation systems.
- Repairs and replaces broken pipe; cleans drainage ditches.
- Help build and repair streets; perform minor masonry work.
- Operate dump truck, riding mower and other heavy to medium equipment and a variety of hand tools.
- Follow safe working practices and have working knowledge of safety practices and procedures in accordance with the City’s Safety and Health Program.
- Assist in the City’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as designated in the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Class E Driver’s License.
- Maintenance and/or construction experience.
- Possession of the following training/certifications preferred: M.O.T.;
Forklift;
Pesticide Application (Right‑of‑Way and Ornamental); and/or Stormwater C License. - Will be able to complete or have completed the City’s Certified Industrial Safety (ICS) 100 and 700 courses within six (6) months of hire.
- Comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
General knowledge of safe use, operation and preventative maintenance of the equipment to which it is assigned; skill in the use of hand tools and equipment to which it is assigned.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with associates.

Heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and feeling; also assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Vocal and hearing communication required. Visual acuity required for use of measuring devices. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
