Overview
Assistant Cross Country & Track Coach. Covenant College is a community committed to the Bible as the inerrant Word of God, grounded in Reformed theology and worldview. Covenant College is a 400-acre campus on Lookout Mountain, GA, near Chattanooga, with access to outdoor and cultural amenities.
OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Temporary Assistant Cross Country & Track Coach who will report to the Head Cross Country & Track Coach and the Director of Athletics. The role involves helping to manage and develop the intercollegiate Cross Country and Track program at Covenant College.
Responsibilities- Assist with the management and development of the intercollegiate track and cross country program.
- Discipleship: mentor and disciple athletes, facilitate spiritual growth, model the value of Christian competition, monitor academic performance, and partner with Student Development for discipleship, development, and retention.
- Recruiting: recruit and retain quality student‑athletes who align with Covenant College’s mission; identify athletes capable of academic and athletic success; work with the head coach to fill a roster of 40 student‑athletes.
- Excellence: field a highly competitive team within the conference; provide on‑field coaching and training, with preference for Sprint/Jump/Throw specialization; conduct opponent scouting; manage social media for Covenant Track & XC.
- Service: contribute to the development of the athletic department and create service and mission opportunities for student athletes to engage with the community.
- Administrative effectiveness: steward program resources; perform duties with professionalism; may be assigned administrative roles within the Athletic Department (e.g., game day management, intramurals, sports information, sport ministry, or student employee oversight).
- Ability to disciple effectively

- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience coaching track and/or cross country
- Commitment to Covenant College policies, rules, regulations of Collegiate Conference of the South, and NCAA Division III
- Ability to work cooperatively with administrators, coaches, students, and faculty
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Master’s degree
- Experience coaching track and/or cross country at the collegiate level
- Experience coaching multi‑track events
- Commitment to Jesus Christ; understanding of Scripture, Westminster Standards, PCA doctrinal standards, and Covenant College mission
- Understanding of Covenant College’s mission and the ability to assent to Covenant’s Statement of Community Beliefs and Staff Commitments
- Primarily outdoor work in varying weather; some time in the office and training facilities
- Evening/weekend hours and travel for competitions and recruiting; moderate physical activity
