SummaryThe Prevention Educator/Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing routine AOD and other prevention services including, but not limited to, information dissemination, education, problem identification and referral. This position will act as a youth mentor through Project AMP.
Project AMP is geared to adolescents and young adults who have exhibited risk factors related to alcohol or other drug use.
Riveon Mental Health and Recovery prevention services include:
Botvin Lifeskills, Building Blocks, Eduvention Juvenile Diversion, Carevention Family Intervention, Comprehensive School Prevention, Drug-Free Workplace Safety Programs, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Parent to Parent educational support, Staff and Parent trainings and Teen Support Groups.
- Responsible for providing prevention services in community and school-based settings.
- Records services provided in prevention log.
- Completes and registers all reports and billing statements for each prevention service.
- Administers and registers outcome and satisfaction surveys.
- Contacts referral sources following each service provided.
- Develops/adapts prevention curriculums to match community needs.
- Staffs agency educational booth at community events and health/wellness fairs.
- Assists treatment programs as necessary.
- Completes all CQI data collection and implements all CQI corrective actions as assigned.
- Participates monthly in Utilization Review and Peer Review Programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong sense of commitment and desire to participate in the project.
- Open-minded about various pathways to substance use prevention and recovery and how different approaches work for different people.
- Maintains a nonjudgmental stance when working with youth and discussing recovery pathways.
- Desire to help youth pursue different life experiences than those they experienced in the context of their substance use disorder.
General Requirements
- Must adhere to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board's Chemical Dependency Code of Ethics, demonstrate an understanding of addiction as an illness.
- Must have the ability to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population.
- Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to promote a healthy environment for our clients.
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills required.
- Good computer skills required.
- One year of experience in addiction prevention or related work with youth and/or families preferred.
- Must have lived experience or have been personally affected by addiction within their life, family, significant other, etc.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate Degree or higher preferred.
- Registered Applicant endorsement or OCSPA with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board required.
- OCPSI or higher credential preferred.
- If Registered Applicant, must achieve OCPSA Prevention certification within two years of employment.
Amount of Travel:
Moderate, mostly confined to local travel.
Hours:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Some evenings and occasional weekends may be required.
Salary Range:
Salary commensurate with licensure and experience.
