Position Summary: The Field Foreman will supervise, and coordinate activities of workers engaged in preparing graves, maintaining cemetery grounds, and performing related work in cemetery by performing the following, including scheduled use of resources such as labor, equipment and materials while completing operations on time and meeting all safety guidelines and requirements. This position promotes growth and development of cemetery employees in the field, while coordinating use of resources with other departments and supporting the operational activities of the entire company.

Plans, directs, coordinates and supervises all field operations within the cemetery. The duties and responsibilities of this position extend to the cemetery or cemeteries under the jurisdiction of the cemetery Regional Superintendent.

Location:Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, 555 N. Ridge Rd., Lorain, Ohio 44053; onsite, in-person.

Hours:7:15 am - 4:30 pm (Monday - Saturday, work week is 5 days a week with a day off )

Compensation Data: $22.00 - $30.00 Hourly/Non-Exempt: based on experience

Travel: Ability to travel to different CCA cemeteries throughout Northeast Ohio daily, as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all field operations including labor, equipment and materials.
  • Provide plans and/or documents to field staff and provide instruction to ensure crews are prepared to complete the job.
  • Ensures all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines. Conduct safety training as needed and safety inspections on job-sites where applicable.
  • Investigate any accident or safety violation, prepares appropriate reports, take action steps to correct and prevent future occurrences. Defines and implements solutions to recurring accidents or most common hazards.
  • Maintains proper inventory of materials, equipment and other supplies necessary to complete production activities.
  • Supervise employees, enforcing proper uniform and PPE use.
  • Training, coaching, mentoring and developing staff to reach potential and established goals for the individual and department.
  • Conducts timely performance reviews of direct reports and takes disciplinary action in junction with the Superintendent when appropriate.
  • Coordinate the use of labor, equipment, materials and other resources with other divisions as needed.
  • Performs all functions with regard to interments and post interment maintenance.
  • Respond to customer complaints ensuring proper handling to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Stay aware of Best Practices. Develop and recommend improved work methods and standards.
  • Maintains time records.

  • Confers with manager(s) to develop plans and schedules for routine maintenance of grounds and graves and to ascertain number, nature, and time schedule for priority activities such as grave digging and lining, grave marker placement, and disinterment’s.
  • Periodically observes ongoing work to ascertain if work is being performed according to instructions and will be completed on schedule.
  • Reassigns tasks of subordinates and confers with manager to adjust activity schedules.
  • Demonstrates and explains tasks such as pruning shrubs and finishing cement, and use of equipment such as backhoe, power lawnmower, and casket lowering device, to train new workers and improve performance of other workers.
  • Supervises workers engaged in opening and closing mausoleum vaults.
  • Oversees graveside services to ensure services are performed according to instructions.
  • Performs minor repairs on equipment.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in installation of water and sewer lines, building and sealing of roads within cemetery, excavation of ground for preset vaults, and movement of equipment by trailer.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Assist the cemetery Field Manager in the discharge of their functions and to act for them in their absence.
  • Conducts monthly safety meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10-hour OSHA Certified, General Industry
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience using the internet such as Internet Explorer
  • Experience using Share Point
  • Current, Valid driver’s license
  • Clean driving record/DISC Insurable
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including using whole numbers, common fractions, and/or decimals.
