Purpose

The plant superintendent is responsible for activities of workers in all phases of a plant operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the paintline shift operation.
  • Ensure effective employee relations.
  • Coordinate production activities with maintenance and quality to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Work with human resources to maintain corporate policies and manage overall headcount according to the budget and sales.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; performance appraisals; rewarding and discipline; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
  • Revise production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Consult with engineering relative to modifications of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products, or when developing new lines for a new product.
  • Troubleshooting of processes and equipment.
  • Provide support to all operations through the application of lean manufacturing / Kaizen principles.
  • Manage special projects as requested by the General Manager.
  • Frequent communication with all levels of management, corporate support groups, Quality Assurance, and plant personnel.
  • Responsible for related safety requirements.
  • Off shift contact person for customer concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing management, a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience. 6 plus years of experience, or equivalent. Experience in automotive manufacturing.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and on the plant floor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, talk and hear.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
