Purpose
The material handling equipment operator is responsible for delivering parts and components to and from assembly lines and supporting the press room when applicable to feed the production process. Work errors, such as mislabeled products, can impact multiple departments. Extreme caution must be used to avoid injuries when driving vehicles in areas with pedestrian traffic. The department is structured as a formal team and requires the ability to work within the team.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities

- Operates a hi‑lo, tugger and/or shag truck to load and unload trucks, support production and/or docks.
- Places finished product in the proper storage location.
- Ensures containers are properly labeled.
- Properly stocks the assigned cells.
- Verifies product in container matches its label.
- Plans, organizes, and prioritizes activities to meet material handling requirements and deadlines.
- Maintains vigilance and focus as a forklift/tugger driver, reading and memorizing information such as part numbers and locations.
- Follows all safety regulations concerning industrial vehicle operation.
- Performs basic housekeeping to keep the area clean and safe.
- Completes various other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience.
- Ability to follow established procedures.
- Operate a Hi‑Lo efficiently in a manufacturing environment.
- Judge distances, speed of moving objects, and lift and move stacked pallets and containers efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Organizational skills.
- Knowledge of AITF
16949 quality standards. - Sufficient problem‑solving skills for routine and non‑routine problems.
- Communication skills to interact with all levels of employees.
- Computer literacy, including basic data entry, scanning, and operation of visual touch‑screen display panels.
- Sufficient math skills to perform department‑related tasks as required.
- Ability to work effectively with people.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work EnvironmentThe employee regularly works in a manufacturing environment.
Physical DemandsRegular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires frequent visual effort and concentration, movement throughout the plant, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work involves standing, walking, bending, lifting, and other physical activities.
