Collective Bargaining Unit Position CN I – Clinical Nurse I
Functioning as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, the Clinical Nurse I (CN I) assumes the responsibility of directing care for a team of patients, using the CN II as a resource. The nursing care reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs. Demonstrates competencies essential in the use of all equipment utilized in the care of patient age groups as indicated.
A CN I is the entry step to the Mercy (CHP) Clinical Ladder. The CN I has one year to progress to the CN II level.
- Graduation from a state‑accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure from the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse and current BLS/CPR certification.
- Successful completion of general and unit‑specific orientation and hospital probationary period. Completes Orientation Checklist.
- Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety & CPR/BLS Recertification.
- Must have theoretical knowledge combined with beginning level clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients. Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds.
Moderate level of physical exertion required. Occasional exposure to adverse conditions.
Reporting Relationships- Responsible to Nurse Manager, or in his/her absence, the Administrative Supervisor. May receive direct instructions from CN II or Charge Nurse.

Licensed Practical Nurses and Patient Care Assistants.
Functioning as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) assumes the responsibility of directing care for a team of patients. He/she demonstrates clinical competency, evidence of nursing leadership, and coordinates the nursing care of a specific group of patients. Nursing care reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs.
Precepts new employees as assigned. Demonstrates competencies in the use of equipment essential in the care of patient age groups as indicated. A CN II is the second step of the Mercy (MERCY) Clinical Ladder. This is the competent Staff Nurse level.
- Graduation from a state-accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure from the state of Ohio as an RN.
- Successful completion of general and unit-specific orientation and hospital probationary period. Completes Orientation Checklist.
- Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety and CPR Re-certification. ACLS is required.
- Must have theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients. Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds.

Hours per pay period: 48
7 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Every 3rd weekend and every other holiday
8 hours of On-Call per month
