Required Qualifications
  • One year of recent experience as a Labor and Delivery RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Certification
  • STABLE and ACLS Certifications (AHA/ARC)
  • Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Essential Work Functions
  • Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families, providing reassurance and addressing concerns
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved obstetric nursing techniques
  • Prepare equipment and aid physician during labor, delivery, and examination of patients
  • Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization of mother and newborn
  • Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to deliver cohesive care
  • Respond to obstetric emergencies, including preeclampsia, hemorrhage, or fetal distress, using evidence‑based protocols
  • Document patient care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes
  • Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results
  • Assist in cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures
  • Comply with all regulatory standards, including hospital policies, state laws, and federal guidelines for obstetric nursing care
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of labor and delivery nursing
Required Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical abilities – maintain stationary position, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
  • Interpersonal skills – work effectively with a variety of personnel and maintain a positive attitude
  • Technical/Motor skills – perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and assist with procedures and equipment
  • Mental requirements – cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, work under close supervision and independently, handle irregular schedules, maintain concentration on detail
  • Sensory – visual acuity and effective communication abilities
